Tax Appraisal

County Assessor, Greta Skeen gms@darenc.com

Business / Personal Tax Mapping

The Appraisal Department is responsible for the listing and appraisal of all real estate property in the County.  The state of North Carolina requires that counties revalue property at least every eight years.    The purpose of a revaluation is to reassess properties at 100% of market value as of the revaluation effective date.

The most recent countywide property revaluation was effective January 1, 2005.  A revaluation was scheduled to be effective January 1, 2010, however, in September 2009, the Dare County Board of Commissioners voted to postpone the property revaluation for one year, effective January 2011, in an effort to give the economy time to stabilize.  For the same reasons, on March 15, 2010, the Board voted to further postpone the revaluation from 2011 to January 2013.  This is the latest date that the county can conduct its revaluation, so there will be no further postponement beyond this date.
